Q: How did you become a Chief Financial Officer? What significant career milestones did you pass to get to where you are today?
My path to becoming a CFO was a deliberate journey rooted in a long-held dream to become an accountant. This spark was lit when I was in the fourth grade – a teacher recognized my aptitude for mathematics and suggested a career in accounting. From that early aspiration, I went on to explore various facets of the financial industry.
During college, I gained practical, hands-on experience working in the accounting department of a local hotel. This foundational role provided a real-world understanding of financial operations. Eager to broaden my horizons and tackle more complex challenges, I subsequently joined a “Big Four” accounting firm.
This experience proved to be pivotal. I was consistently presented with new and intricate challenges, which honed my analytical and problem-solving skills and provided exposure to a wide range of business scenarios. I have spearheaded the implementation of new accounting systems, including the successful turnaround of a struggling business through strategic financial management, have been involved in significant acquisitions, and played a key role in the complex process of taking a company public. Each of these milestones has contributed significantly to my understanding of financial leadership and prepared me for the multifaceted role of CFO at BAMKO.
Q: What inspired you to join the BAMKO team?
For me, the collaborative environment and the caliber of the team are crucial drivers of job satisfaction. This opportunity at BAMKO arose at a strategic point in my career, coinciding with the successful completion of a substantial business restructuring.
Following some very insightful meetings with various team members, I felt a strong alignment with the leadership and the overall culture at BAMKO, making it the ideal next step in my professional journey.
Q: What are some of the greatest growth opportunities you see for BAMKO?
From a financial perspective, one of the greatest growth opportunities I see for BAMKO lies in building a robust and scalable accounting department that can effectively support the company’s impressive trajectory. Given BAMKO’s rapid operational expansion, there’s a significant opportunity to enhance our financial infrastructure to keep pace.
Secondly, I’m particularly excited about the prospect of more deeply integrating finance and accounting insights into the early stages of BAMKO’s new growth initiatives and significant wins. By bringing finance to the forefront of strategic discussions, we can provide valuable data-driven perspectives that contribute to even greater success and sustainable profitability.
Q: Which of these opportunities are you hoping to invest in as BAMKO’s CFO?
I see significant value in investing in automation to enhance our accounting operations. By thoughtfully implementing automation solutions, whether through AI or other systematic tools, we can maximize the utilization of our current systems and resources. This strategic investment will enable us to achieve greater efficiency, reduce the potential for manual errors, and ultimately deliver more accurate and predictable financial outcomes for BAMKO, allowing for better informed decision-making.
Q: What was the most important thing you have learned throughout your career?
If I had to pinpoint the single most important takeaway from my career, it would undoubtedly be the significance of the team. The people you work alongside and the collaborative spirit in which you pursue objectives are the defining factors in both the success of the endeavor and the personal satisfaction you gain from your daily contributions. Achieving ambitious goals is always more meaningful and impactful when accomplished collectively.
The culture fostered within a team directly correlates with the enjoyment and sense of purpose one finds in their professional life. The power of a unified and supportive team cannot be overstated in achieving meaningful outcomes and fostering a positive and fulfilling work environment.
Q: Outside of balancing the books, what are you passionate about?
I love to travel! I’m always eager to explore new corners of the globe, purely for the adventure of discovering new places and immersing myself in new cultures. On trips, you’ll often find me seeking out local traditions and activities. Back home, I love bringing people together, hosting parties, and making memories with friends.
