The Strategy Behind the Stuff: Q&A with Danielle Olszewski Rios

Q&A with Danielle Olszewski Rios
How does a high-level brand vision actually become a closed deal? Is it the strength of the creative, or the strategy of the pitch? For Danielle Olszewski Rios, BAMKO’s Senior Sales Enablement Manager, the answer lies in the “bridge” built between the two.

Danielle is the architect of the infrastructure that empowers our sales team to lead with insights rather than just line items. Whether she is orchestrating global, client-facing webinars or refining the complex CRM communications that keep our team agile, Danielle ensures that every BAMKO representative is equipped to deliver a sophisticated, strategic brand experience.

In this Q&A, we sit down with Danielle to discuss her role in aligning Sales and Marketing, and why she believes the future of the industry isn’t just about the product; it’s about the measurable outcomes those products create.

Q: Sales and marketing alignment is often easier said than done. How do you ensure that the brand’s creative vision translates into practical tools for the sales team?

A: In my role, I often feel like a translator. Our marketing and creative teams are great at building big, beautiful brand narratives, but at the end of the day, our sales reps have to build the deal. If a marketing asset or creative deck doesn’t have immediate utility in a high-pressure pitch, it’s just going to sit in a folder.

My job is to bridge this gap, helping our sales experts turn high-level assets into winning pitches, while ensuring our marketing and creative teams understand the real-world tools the sales team needs to close the deal. At BAMKO, we don’t just hand over a product sheet and hope for the best. We provide decks, templates, and collateral that explain the strategy behind the selection. It’s about shifting the conversation from “here’s a cool product” to “here is how this builds a meaningful brand experience for your client.”

Whether it’s a global e-commerce uniform program or a high-touch custom kitting project, my goal is to give our reps the tools to lead with strategy. By turning these creative assets into practical, deal-ready tools, we empower our team to be consultants, not just order-takers.

Q: In the promotional products space, it’s easy to focus on the ‘product.’ How do you train reps to sell the strategy of branded merchandise rather than just the items themselves?

A: Everyone at BAMKO views branded merchandise as a high-impact marketing channel, not just a line item in a budget. If the conversation starts with the fabric of a tote bag before we’ve discussed the client’s actual goals, we aren’t doing our jobs.

My focus is on empowering our sales experts to lead with an outcome-first mindset. Whether a client is looking for a global uniform program, print and display solutions, or custom kitting, we start by asking about the final objective, instead of product specs. If the goal is to drive employee retention or increase trade show lead conversion, the product is simply the vehicle to get there.

By shifting the focus from the physical item to the overarching strategy, we help our clients see their spend as a way to drive specific and strategic outcomes. That’s what we mean when we say, more than merch.

Q: A lot of your work happens behind the scenes in project management and cross-departmental syncs. What is one part of your job that people would be surprised to learn is critical to BAMKO’s success?

BAMKO Sales Leadership Team

A: People often think sales enablement is all about planning inspirational sales meetings and polishing slide decks. In reality, a big part of our success comes down to managing the feedback loop across the entire organization.

I spend a significant amount of time sharing insights and feedback from our sales team back to our vendor relations, creative, and marketing departments. If our reps hear a specific objection or spot a new market trend, that data needs to inform our strategy immediately.

It’s a cycle: Our in-house creative team designs a vision, sourcing finds the right solutions, and sales takes it to the client. But then, the client’s feedback has to travel all the way back up the chain to keep us sharp.

If I’m not acting as that bridge, those departments can start to drift apart. It might look like emails and messages on the surface, but it’s actually the fuel for our next big pivot. By keeping that loop tight, we ensure our sales, marketing, and creative teams are always aligned with what the market actually wants.

Q: You’ve seen BAMKO grow and shift its market positioning. How has the ‘Internal Sales Playbook’ evolved from when you first started to the sophisticated version you manage today?

A: In the past, the promotional products industry was largely reactive; essentially just fulfilling specific item requests. Today, the industry as a whole has shifted into a digitally-enabled service, and BAMKO has always been ahead of that curve.

For years, we’ve offered the industry a proactive, data-driven approach to branded merchandise. A standout result of this collaboration is our CUBE pitch deck program. Rather than relying on off-the-shelf software, our developers built this infrastructure to generate fully custom designs that address specific client needs from the very first slide. Because our tech team works hand-in-hand with our sales force, they are constantly upgrading the platform based on direct rep feedback, ensuring we’re always delivering high-impact, visual mock-ups that bring a client’s objectives to life instantly.

Ultimately, BAMKO uses our technology to support full-service brand partnerships rather than just selling products. By integrating automation and CRM-driven insights, we’ve stripped away the administrative burden so our sales experts can focus on the human side of the business.

Q: When onboarding new reps, what is the one skill that usually takes the longest to develop, and how do you accelerate that learning curve?

A: For someone brand new to promo and to BAMKO, it’s the industry acumen and outcome-first approach. Anyone can look through a product catalog, but understanding the specific pain points of a niche industry takes time. It’s the difference between being a vendor and being a consultant.

To accelerate this, we move away from traditional lecturing and onboard our new hires directly with our specialized teams: marketing, creative, account management, and merchandising. By navigating our digital tools and cross-departmental workflows alongside these experts, new sales members master the internal processes required to win. This hands-on immersion ensures they enter client discovery with full control, knowing exactly how to leverage BAMKO’s entire suite of resources to close deals.

Q: Ultimately, how does your work in Sales Enablement change the experience for a BAMKO client?

Danielle Rios with Sales Expert

A: My goal is to ensure that a client never feels like they are just buying stuff. By the time our sales experts sit down with a brand, the work I’ve done behind the scenes ensures they arrive with a total brand management mindset.

Because we’ve tightened that feedback loop between our global sourcing and creative teams, the client receives a proposal that is already vetted for high-level execution and brand compliance. They aren’t getting a generic pitch; they’re getting a strategic roadmap. Whether we are implementing a global e-commerce solution or a complex uniform program, the client sees a partner who understands their overhead, their logistics, and their brand’s why.

By enabling our team to lead with these sophisticated, tech-driven tools, we take the heavy lifting off the client’s plate. They get to move away from the stress of managing a supply chain and into a space where they can simply watch their brand engagement grow.

Q: What is the best promotional product you’ve ever received, and why?

A: My absolute favorites are my travel accessories, specifically my custom packing cubes and Cadence Travel Capsules. There is nothing more satisfying than opening a suitcase and seeing everything perfectly categorized, organized, and fit neatly in my luggage. They’re the ultimate ‘problem-solver’ promo because they save me space and keep me sane while I’m traveling, whether for work or for fun!

Beyond the Product, Toward the Partnership

The shift from being a vendor to a brand partner isn’t just a marketing slogan; it’s an operational requirement in today’s landscape. As Danielle highlights, the real value of Sales Enablement isn’t found in a slide deck or a training session; it’s found in the connective tissue between a client’s highest brand aspirations and the practical, data-driven tools used to achieve them.

BAMKO ensures that every program is built on a foundation of strategy and measurable ROI. When the why is clear, the products become more than items; they become the bridge to a lasting human connection.

Sales Enablement & Cross-Departmental Strategy FAQ

What is sales enablement?
▼
Sales enablement is the internal operational framework that bridges the gap between high-level brand marketing and practical, deal-closing execution. Rather than leaving Account Executives to build their own pitch decks, source product concepts, or manually navigate catalogs, sales enablement equips reps with customizable pitch templates, automated presentation tech, and pre-vetted campaign roadmaps. Turning creative assets into practical, deal-ready tools eliminates administrative friction so sales experts can lead as strategic consultants.

• Global Sourcing & Vendor Relations: Identifies factory-direct manufacturing partners and secures deep onshore inventory to control costs.

• Sales Enablement & Account Management: Packages creative designs and logistics strategies into customized pitch decks and executes the campaign.

This cross-departmental alignment ensures that client feedback travels directly back up the chain, keeping BAMKO’s entire team agile and aligned with real-time market demands.
